DGA

DGA (Disc Golf Association) was founded in 1976 by Steady Ed Headrick to develop and promote disc golf as an international sport. Headrick coined and trademarked the term “Disc Golf” and established the rules, competitive structure, and target standards that shaped the modern game. In 1977, Ed and his son Ken patented the first modern disc golf basket, the Disc Pole Hole (US Patent #4,039,189), which used hanging chains to catch discs from all directions — a revolutionary innovation that transformed the sport.

Today, DGA is known not only as a pioneer in basket design but also as a manufacturer of high-quality discs. DGA discs are produced in collaboration with Discraft, combining decades of design experience with premium-level manufacturing. DGA baskets and discs are used on thousands of courses worldwide and remain a cornerstone of disc golf’s past, present, and future.
